SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 — The Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) programme introduced last year to ease the people's burden will continue next year with RM10 million allocation.

State executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim said JER, which sells affordable basic necessities, will be improved to benefit Selangor's residents further.

"JER will continue next year. We have received an additional RM10 million allocation and will make improvements," he said during the RM1 million mock cheque handover ceremony for the Palestinian people at the State Secretariat Building yesterday.

The programme offers standard chickens at RM10 each, fresh solid beef (RM10 per pack), Grade B chicken eggs (RM10 per tray), mackerel fish (RM6 per pack), 5kg cooking oil (RM25), and 5kg rice (RM13).

As of July, it has taken place in over 2,400 locations, with sales worth RM60 million, including over RM20 million in targeted subsidies from the state government.

Meanwhile, Izham said Selangor is the first state to have food supply reserves as a food security measure.

This involves cooperation from various quarters in identifying suitable food supplies, as many food items have expiration dates.

"This time, we are using a different approach. We want to see how to manage food in the event a disaster occurs. For example, rice reserves should at least be sufficient for three months (supply).

"We will store them in warehouses. We are currently identifying suitable food items like rice and other protein sources," he said.
