Matrade to lead export acceleration mission to Japan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) will lead an export acceleration mission involving 16 Malaysian companies to Tokyo and Osaka, Japan from October 31 to November 8, 2023.

The mission, which is in collaboration with the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry and Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Bhd (SME Bank), is part of Matrade’s ongoing efforts to facilitate Malaysian SMEs’ expansion in the global market.

"Held in conjunction with the Malaysia Fair 2023 from November 3-5, the mission’s main objectives are to showcase Malaysia's capabilities in the halal food, beverages and lifestyle industries.

"It will also enable the Malaysian companies to make inroads into the Japanese market which comes at an opportune time ahead of the World Expo 2025 that will be held in Osaka," Matrade said in a statement today.

The agency, through its offices in Tokyo and Osaka, will coordinate a series of programmes for the 16 Malaysian companies, including their participation in Malaysia Fair 2023, business seminars as well as one-to-one business matching with Japanese buyers.

Transformation and digital trade division director Asnor Vidya Nor Azmi said the agency is also collaborating with the Asean-Japan Centre and Osaka International Business Promotion Centre to provide an avenue for the Malaysian companies to learn more about the Japanese market and opportunities.

Japan was Malaysia's fourth largest trading partner in 2022, with the bilateral trade rising 21.2 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM181.51 billion.

In 2022, Malaysia's exports to Japan rose 29.6 per cent y-o-y to RM98.24 billion.
