Cops remind public to follow traffic rules during peaceful rallies

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Members of the public are reminded to adhere to the traffic rules and regulations when participating in any peaceful rally in the city.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the reminder was deemed necessary after police observed individuals waving flags and placards while riding motorcycles, which could endanger other road users.

“Waving placards while riding a motorcycle is against the law as it could endanger other road users,” he told the press after attending the KL Police monthly assembly at the KL Police Contingent headquarters today.

The KL police will also implement traffic operations around the city to ensure public compliance with the traffic rules and regulations.

At the same time, Allaudeen said the police are ready to ensure the smooth running of the “Malaysia Stands with Palestine Rally” slated to be held at the Axiata Arena Stadium in Bukit Jalil tonight.

The rally, organised by the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) and Global Peace Malaysia (GPM), is expected to run from 6pm to 11pm and involve over 40 non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver a special message at the rally, which aimed to show Malaysia’s solidarity with the people of Palestine.
