Selangor keen on organising Rewang Komuniti, revive togetherness

SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — The state government is interested in organising a Rewang Komuniti (community gathering) specifically for residents of low and medium-cost apartment complexes early next year.

State executive councillor for housing Borhan Aman Shah said the programme aims to rekindle the communal spirit and cooperation declining in urban areas.

"We will identify areas like old apartment complexes, which may have previously housed squatters or longhouses.

"These groups used to have a strong sense of cooperation and community spirit, but it has waned as they moved to apartment living. Health problems have begun to arise due to less active lifestyles," he said.

Borhan was speaking at the Urban Well-Being Symposium organised by the Selangor Housing and Property Board at the Midlands Convention Centre yesterday.

Rewang Komuniti will last for two days and one night, with the Valley Jaya and Pandan Indah state constituencies selected for the pilot project.

Some of its proposed activities include community feasts, educational programmes, and visits to the less fortunate residents with the relevant agencies involved.

"In Selangor, we have over 400 registered developers under the Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association Malaysia (Rehda). However, it is our responsibility to develop human capital," he said.
