SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — The Selangor Food Festival will continue next year as the state looks to further promote local delicacies to domestic and foreign tourists.
State executive councillor for culture Borhan Aman Shah said in particular, the administration plans to highlight nasi ambeng and satay, among other local traditional foods.
“It (festival) will carry on next year at Avani Sepang and we will look at Selangor’s ethnic food.
“Certainly, there will be delicacies that will be gazetted as heritage food,” he said when met at the Anugerah Seni Budaya Negeri Selangor 2023 at Hotel De Palma, here, yesterday.
In November last year, nasi ambeng was gazetted as a Selangor traditional and heritage food through the Selangor Malay Tradition and Heritage Corporation (Padat).
More recently, Borhan had said that the popular Kajang satay will be given a similar recognition by early next year.
Meanwhile, the executive councillor said his committee is finalising a working paper to propose gazetting ronggeng as a Selangor heritage dance.
“We are discussing with Padat and will conduct a workshop once the working paper is completed, before proposing for a gazettement.
“Ronggeng has its uniqueness, with distinct attire and etiquette, just like how Penang has boria, Melaka has joget lambak and dondang sayang, and Johor has zapin," he said.
