SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 — As part of its commitment to improve public transport in the Klang Valley, the Unity Government will reinstate the construction of five stations of the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project, which the former Pakatan Harapan administration previously scrapped.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the five stations are Tropicana, Raja Muda, Temasya, Bukit Raja, and Bandar Botanik.
“The government has agreed to resume the previously shelved construction of the five LRT3 stations.
“Continuing (the construction) of the stations would enhance and complete the transportation network,” he told the Dewan Rakyat during the tabling of the Federal Budget 2024 today.
According to his speech, approximately two million residents are expected to directly benefit from the project with an estimated RM4.7 billion cost
The Federal government will continue to provide subsidies for public transportation, including buses, trains, and air services, to ensure the sustainability of the best services for the people.
Some of the other announced public transportation subsidies include RM96 million for stage buses and the continuation of the My50 monthly pass for 180,000 public transportation users in Klang Valley.
On July 11, 2018, the then-Pakatan Harapan government approved the continuation of the LRT3 project, but took several measures to reduce the project’s cost, which included shelving the construction of five stations said to have low projected passenger ridership.
Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng said the continuation of the LRT3 project at a final cost of RM16.63 billion saw a 47 per cent reduction from the initial project cost.
