EV-related courses at Pengerang Vocational College in 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Study programmes related to Automotive Technology, Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (EV) will be introduced at Pengerang Vocational College, in Johor, which is expected to start operating in 2026, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said the move was among measures taken to support the National Automotive Policy to boost the use of EVs in the country.

"(In addition) The elements of Hybrid Automotive Technology and Electric Vehicles, as well as Robotic Technology, are being applied in the curriculum at 53 vocational colleges that offer automotive technology programmes,” she said in  response to a question from Zahir Hassan (PH-Wangsa Maju) who wanted to know the ministry’s plan to increase the number of vocational colleges that will offer skill courses in the EV industry and other courses in line with current technological developments, such as smart technology and artificial intelligence (AI)

Lim said the ministry was also committed to ensuring graduates of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) meet future job requirements by ensuring that the curriculum content in the study programmes offered at vocational colleges was given the latest technological added value.

This, she said, included introducing a new curriculum that is in line with Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), for example through smart farming and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the field of agriculture, which is integrated through practical training at five vocational colleges that offer agriculture programmes.

"Apart from that, IoT and AI elements are also applied in the curriculum at 23 vocational colleges that offer computer system and network technology programmes through the implementation of the Smart Home System," she said.

According to Lim, the marketability rate of TVET graduates also showed an increase, namely by 97 per cent in 2018, 2019 (98 per cent), 2020 (98 per cent) and in 2021 by 99 per cent.
