SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has proposed making Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) a centre for heritage studies.
He said the matter was discussed with Egypt’s former grand mufti Sheikh Ali Gomaa during his visit to the transcontinental country.
The state government is also considering expanding the role of UIS and mosques in Selangor to serve as research centres studying ancient civilisations.
"We have also produced translated books, including Ihya Ulumuddin (by Abu Hamid al-Ghazali). The first volume is completed, while the remaining volumes are being translated.
“This is not the first book (we have translated). We have published over 60 translated books, including from Western countries and the Middle East,” Amirudin said when officiating the Selangor Middle East Students’ Convention 2023 in Amman, Jordan, yesterday evening.
Earlier, he met with Malaysia’s Ambassador to Jordan, Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, to discuss the welfare of some 300 students from Selangor currently in the country.
The Menteri Besar is currently on a working visit to Egypt and Jordan, where he is scheduled to participate in a series of programmes.
Among others, he will meet the advisor to Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Prince Ghazi Muhammad, and attend a reception with the Malaysian diaspora in the country.
Tomorrow, Amirudin will attend a forum with Selangor students in Jordan, visit the students' accommodations, and officiate the closing ceremony of the Selangor Middle East Students’ Convention 2023.
