SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 — A company based in Petaling Jaya had its business licence revoked after illegally painting a parking bay as a reserved spot and then failing to explain its action to the local authority.
The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), in a statement, said the decision was taken after the firm failed to meet the one-week deadline given to show cause.
"We received complaints about four companies committing the offence of repainting parking bays without the council's approval, and issued a notice to explain why their licences should not be revoked.
"We only received responses from three of the companies, while the other has failed to do so," MBPJ corporate communications' media secretariat said.
In a separate development, MBPJ said it received 244 complaints regarding abandoned lands and houses that have not been properly maintained by their owners as of September.
"Based on data, 423 owners of abandoned lots and houses have bill arrears for grass-cutting services. MBPJ is in the midst of filing a civil suit to claim these arrears."
The council urged owners of such properties to ensure they are constantly well maintained.
It added that landowners can check their bill arrears by referring to MBPJ's Health and Environment Services Department.
