SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — State subsidiary KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will collaborate with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) to study waste management operations and develop a new recycling centre in Selangor.
KDEBWM managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir said financial support in the form of a grant will be provided to UUM's School of Technology, Management, and Logistics (STML) to conduct the research over the course of a year.
Three university researchers will be involved in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including data collection, interviews, and site visits.
"It is important for KDEBWM to conduct this study so we can obtain accurate data to enhance our waste management and recycling operation strategies. We chose UUM because we believe it is one of the leading universities in technical research.
"Hopefully, the research methods will help us identify suitable new locations to construct eight additional recycling centres in addition to the four we already have," he said.
Ramli was speaking at the memorandum of understanding signing with UUM at the Shah Alam Convention Centre earlier today. UUM was represented by its Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Russayani Ismail.
On her part, Russayani said the data collection for the research would involve all stakeholders of KDEBWM, communities, and industry players in Selangor to achieve the best results.
"We thank KDEBWM for entrusting us with the responsibility to conduct this research. We will provide theoretical expertise, while KDEBWM has practical experience.
"InsyaAllah, this collaboration between both parties will prove to be fruitful and yield the best results for any challenges that arise in the industry, for the benefit of the community," she said.
