MBSJ holds disaster simulation for monsoon season

SUBANG JAYA, Oct 1 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) conducted a disaster simulation in preparation for the upcoming monsoon season at the end of this year.

Subang Jaya Deputy Mayor Datuk Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali said the training not only involves flood preparedness but also covers scenarios like landslides and storms.

"The MBSJ and district-level disaster committees are on high alert with their members, assets, and logistics to face any possible scenarios during the monsoon season.

"We are ready, along with the police, the fire department, and assets from various other agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare (JKM), to deal with potential disasters," he said after the Selangor Criterium Series X Subang Jaya 2023 launch ceremony earlier today.

Before this, Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the council had allocated emergency funds to handle potential disasters in the future.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the country is currently in a transitional monsoon phase, which began on September 19 and is expected to continue until November.

During the transitional monsoon phase, Malaysia experiences weak winds from various directions, which are conducive to thunderstorm occurrences and can lead to heavy rain and strong winds quickly.
