KUALA LANGAT, Oct 1 — The Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has not received any complaints regarding a shortage in rice supplies.
Its director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said this is because most residents are aware this is not a local issue but a global one and understand the real causes of the problem.
"There are no complaints in Selangor because its people know this is not a local issue but a global one.
"The rice supply from India and Thailand was previously restricted, leading to increased demand, causing the issue," he said.
Mohd Zuhairi was speaking to the press at the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah launch with Segi Fresh in Teluk Panglima Garang yesterday.
His Highness the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah graced the officiation of the event.
The director added that KPDN is still monitoring the situation daily to ensure an adequate rice supply and price compliance by traders.
It also assists traders in obtaining rice supplies through close cooperation with the Padi and Rice Regulation division.
Last week, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said there is sufficient local white rice (BPT) stock to meet the needs of Selangor's residents, amounting to 45,500 metric tonnes per month.
It is sufficient until the end of September and will become more stable in October due to the rice harvest in the northern parts of the Peninsula and in Selangor.
