SUBANG JAYA, Sept 27 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has urged the public to cooperate with the local council to combat dengue fever following a rise in the number of cases.

Mayor, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, said 5,936 dengue cases were recorded in the 38th epidemiology week, which is a 41.2 per cent increase compared with the corresponding period last year of 3,492 cases.

Apart from continuing its campaign efforts, Fauzi said the local council will cooperate with those residing in dengue hotspots.

“We aim for the residents to be more involved. There is no point if the council is on the ground, but there is no participation from the residents,” he said at a press conference after a full board meeting at the MBSJ headquarters yesterday.

Fauzi said eight hotspots have been identified in MBSJ administrative areas, adding that residents should remain vigilant and keep their surroundings clean.

“It is advisable to spend at least 10 minutes a week on identifying and destroying Aedes mosquito breeding grounds to curb the spread of dengue.”

Fauzi added that previously, campaigns were also carried out by the council’s health department and expressed hope that the efforts would yield positive results.
