Selangor aims for an eight on the Family Wellbeing Index by 2025

SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 — The strategic core of ensuring social inclusivity and the people’s wellbeing in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) is set to boost the state’s Family Wellbeing Index (IKK) score to eight by 2025.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said upcoming programmes and initiatives are set to improve this score.

“The state government realises the importance of strengthening family institutions, thus RS-1 has set it as a strategic core to achieve a score of eight on a scale of 10 by 2025,” she told Selangorkini.

Based on the 2019 IKK report, she said Selangor is nationally ranked 13th out of 17 (including the three Federal Territories), with a score of 7.68.

Anfaal said the main factor for the low score is due to parents being so busy they don’t have time for their children, in addition to financial problems and insufficient savings.

“The community is also experiencing the ‘sandwich generation’ problem, where the breadwinners have to care for their old parents and also their children.

“This impacts their mental health, quality of life and families’ wellbeing,” she said.
