AMPANG JAYA, Sept 23 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has utilised a total of RM53 million every year for waste management in areas under its jurisdiction.
Council President Ani Ahmad said this cost can be reduced if residents cooperate in segregating waste and practising recycling at home.

"Indeed, from time to time, waste management and collection have been a top priority on MPAJ's agenda.
"We estimate approximately 612,000 Ampang Jaya residents in total generate waste. So, if it is not managed correctly, this will affect the overall cost of waste management for us.
"Our annual waste management costs alone is RM53 million. Therefore, if we can reduce waste at the source, it will thus lower the costs for MPAJ," she said.
Ani was speaking to the press after officiating the Gotong-Royong Perdana programme earlier today, in conjunction with World Cleanup Day 2023, at Taman Bukit Indah Phase Two, Ampang Jaya.
She added that to support the community's efforts to segregate waste at the source and promote recycling among residents, MPAJ has established waste collection centres in various areas, including markets.
"We also provide e-waste collection centres so residents can properly dispose of them without harming the environment, as electronic waste contains highly hazardous metals if not handled carefully," Ani said.
