SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) team emerged as champions in the inaugural Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) Invitational Volleyball League after, defeating the PKNS Eagle 3 - 0 in the final today.
MBSA defeated PKNS Eagle 25 - 16, 27 - 25, and 25 - 22 in the final which lasted about an hour at the MBSA Volleyball Hall in Section Four.
The champions won a cash prize of RM10,000 as well as a trophy and medals which were presented by the state executive councillor for sports, youth, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi, whereas the losing finalists PKNS Eagle took home a cash prize of RM6,000 as well as medals.
In third place was the Kelantan team, whereas the fourth placing went to the Sabah Rhino team, who took home cash prizes of RM3,000 and RM1,500 respectively, together with medals.
Earlier the MBSA team, coached by Shamsaimon Mohd Sharit, dominated the match and played well in all sets this evening, without having to play PKNS Eagle in a deciding set.
When met by reporters after the match, he said he was proud of the way his men played against the majority of their more experienced opponents.
“I did not expect my boys to win 3-0 since we know that PKNS Eagle has good players. In fact, they have the best players in Malaysia.
"But our tactical play in terms of defence and counter-attack to kill the ball worked. Congratulations to the team for playing brilliantly and following the instructions," Shamsaimon said.
The PKNS Invitational Volleyball League, held from September 12 to September 17, was a collaborative effort with the Malaysian Volleyball Association (Mava) and MBSA. Eight teams namely MBSA, Kuala Lumpur Shark, Johor Tiger, Sabah Rhino, Kelantan, Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Gladiator, Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), and PKNS Eagle participated in the competition.
