SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — The Selangor State Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) is not facing any issues in supplying rice to customers at its Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) affordable basic necessities sale roadshow.
Its sales unit supervisor Muhammad Farid Mustafa said PKPS continues to bring the same quantity of at least 200 bags of five-kilogramme rice under the JER brand, to each sales venue.
"We have not faced any rice shortages so far, and we are still bringing the same amount to every JER programme.
"Before this, we did indeed face a problem with a shortage of rice supplies, but when the sales programmes were reduced (due to logistical issues), it was able to accommodate the existing supply," he told SelangorKini.
Muhammad Farid was speaking at the JER for the Kota Kemuning state constituency, at Dewan Pulai Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam in Section 27 earlier today.
Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor's rice supplies are sufficient and will be monitored to ensure the public's needs are always met.
Admitting there was a rice shortage between 10 to 15 per cent, he said this was subsequently resolved by sourcing supplies from Sekinchan.
In July, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu acknowledged a shortage of domestic rice supplies due to weather conditions.
He said the current situation is not conducive for paddy growth, to produce the necessary food supplies.
