SUBANG JAYA, Sept 10 — The Subang Jaya City Council's Car-Free Day this month took on a patriotic shine as it featured a parade celebration to mark the National Day, which took place on August 31, and Malaysia Day which falls on September 16.

With over 2,000 visitors gracing the event, Subang Jaya Mayor Datuk Bandar Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said a total of 624 participants from 25 contingents representing various government and private agencies marched in the parade.

"This is the first time this (such a parade) has been held, and Alhamdulillah, the response from the community here has been most encouraging.

"Due to this, we will try to make some improvements to make it an annual activity with more exciting content," he said.

Mohd Fauzi added the programme, which started at 7am today, aims to instil a love for the nation among the city's residents.

"The participants and visitors today range include children and adults. They are Subang Jaya residents who need to inherit the spirit of nationalism that ought to be preserved, not only at the city level but also at the state and national levels," he said.

At the event, MBSJ announced the contingents from KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), the Residents' Representative Council (MPP) Zone 14, and Tadika As Sakeenah Learning Centre, as the winners of the parade, each taking home RM500 in cash and participation certificates.

Various exciting activities were also organised, including street soccer competitions, archery, free health check-ups, a dengue awareness exhibition, demonstrations by the K9 Unit of the Royal Malaysia Police, and lucky draws.
