Youth should learn good politics — NGO chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 — Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) president Mohd Izzat Afifi Hamid urged youngsters to analyse political information well.

He said the younger generation plays a crucial role in politics, which can indirectly shape the country’s future.

Since youth as young as 18 can vote, it is crucial they have peer guidance to properly evaluate and disseminate the vast amount of political information, particularly in cyberspace.

Izzat Afifi said the group is responsible to rectify inaccuracies to increase the community’s access to reliable information.

He said this is because young people, who are the most active users of social media, should be the first to check and verify all news and information.

“Young people should be the ones who mobilise the cultural renewal agenda and noble attitudes.

“MBM hopes today’s youth will have more positive attitudes and good values to ensure a better future for the country,” he told Bernama.

He said this in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for youth to help the government deflect accusations online from certain parties.

Anwar said youth can convey the truth via social media, one of which is the issue of allocations to states under Perikatan Nasional’s administration.
