SHAH ALAM, 27 AUGUST: More than 45,000 families have benefitted from care packages containing food donated by Yayasan Mesra Selangor since its inception in 2021.
Its chief executive officer Zahariman Ariffin said the aid was distributed to the less able and those whose incomes were badly affected by the Covid -19 pandemic.
"Although it was introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, this aid initiative is being continued because there are still a few people who are badly affected by the pandemic.
"There are three categories of recipients of the caring package, which are the extreme poor, disaster victims and urgent needs such as layoffs and accidents," he said when contacted by SelangorKini.
Meanwhile, Zahariman explained that his side always cooperates with community leaders in distributing aid to those groups.
"Community leaders play a role because they know better what is happening to the people in the area.
"They will pass information to us on any affected family before the care packsge is given," he said.
Previously, on May 17, 2023, in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebrations, Yayasan Mesra Selangor handed over 50 care packages to a group of artists in need at the Seri Pacific Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
