SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — Four candidates from Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) and Barisan Nasional (BN), who lost by mere margins in the recently-concluded Selangor polls, will file election petitions to challenge the results.
They are Harapan candidates Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chin (Taman Medan) and Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni (Sungai Kandis), and BN's Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (Gombak Setia) and Noorazli Said (Dengkil).
Akhir said his team is currently gathering related information to be handed over to his lawyer before appealing the result.
"We will file a petition in two weeks' time," he said when contacted yesterday.
Similarly, Megat and Noorazli have stated that they will be gathering evidence to challenge their election results.
Former state executive councillor Zawawi had previously said his team will file a petition within 21 days following allegations that close to 2,000 ballot papers in his constituency went missing.
Their decisions to challenge the polling results follow a similar comment made by Selangor Harapan chairman Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari that the Unity alliance is considering challenging the results in certain constituencies that were lost with slim majority.
In the August 12 election, Akhir lost in Taman Medan by a meagre 30 votes to Perikatan Nasional's Afif Bahardin, while Megat was defeated by Hilman Idham by 58 votes.
In Sungai Kandis, Zawawi lost to Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad by 167 votes, whereas Noorazli was short of 407 votes to win in Dengkil against Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh.
Overall, the Harapan-BN alliance won 34 of the 56 state seats, four short of achieving a two-thirds majority.
