KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry has organised various programmes to engage young people in science, technology and innovation, including the National Science Week, Techlympics and the Innovathon reality programme.
Its Minister, Chang Lih Kang, said various science fairs and carnivals have been organised across the country during National Science Week, which is held every year from April to October.
“It aims to unearth talents and promote science and technology to inspire young people to take an interest in these fields,” he said when appearing as a guest in the Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme on Radio Televisyen Malaysia today.
He said the Techlympics competition combines technology and the Olympics to spark children’s interest in science, robotics, coding, the Internet of Things, and software.
In addition, the Ministry has also organised an Innovathon, a television reality programme that showcases people’s innovations.
“MOSTI plays a vital role in innovation, a core aspect of the Malaysia Madani concept. Additionally, science and technology can be utilised to tackle issues such as climate change and food security not only in Malaysia but also globally,” he said.
Chang said that the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry also utilised science and technology to help boost the country’s economic growth.
“One of the initiatives is the Hydrogen Economy Roadmap which aims to create a low carbon nation and create more job opportunities.”
