Socso successfully handles over 63,000 physical, mental health cases

KOTA BHARU, Aug 6 — The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has successfully handled 63,399 cases nationwide involving patients with physical and mental health issues through its Return To Work (RTW) programme from 2022 until June this year.

Socso group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said of the figure, 44,154 insured benefactors have successfully returned to work.

“Socso’s RTW programme has enabled workers who have been rehabilitated after suffering injuries or diseases to return to the workforce,” he told reporters here after handing out RM4,060 worth of workshop tools to Socso contributor Tengku Mohamad Amirul Akmal Tengku Ruslan at Kampung Hutan Banggol, Pantai Cahaya Bulan, here today.

Azman said the programme also helped workers with psychiatric illnesses return to their productive best.

The RTW programme is executed with hospitals through the Re-employment Support, Treatment and Rehabilitation Team (Restart) initiative.

“Restart is a collaboration between Socso’s RTW division and Community Mental Health Centre (Mentari), and the Health Ministry’s Psychiatry and Mental Health Department.

“Through this collaboration, patients are assisted through RTW and work support programmes to a point where they are independent enough in various ways and capable of working again,” he said.

He said nearly 30 government hospitals nationwide are involved in this programme.
