SHAH ALAM, Aug 4 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari will initiate legal proceedings against his Kedah counterpart Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over alleged defamation and slander in relation to a development project in Selangor.
In a statement today, Amirudin categorically denied the allegations made by Sanusi during a political ceramah on Wednesday night pertaining to the cleaning and development of the Klang River under Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG).
Amirudin noted that he had already clarified the matter multiple times previously — twice in the state assembly and subsequently in Parliament on March 1.
“After consulting my legal team, I will commence legal proceedings against Sanusi next week over these allegations,’’ he stated.
Amirudin said Sanusi’s remarks made during his ceramah in Dataran Darul Aman in Jitra, Kedah were clearly slanderous in nature and a desperate attempt to shift attention away from his own ongoing scandal on alleged rare earth elements (REE) extraction.
Last night, during his ceramah in Kg Tasik Tambahan, Ampang, Amirudin had similarly expressed his intention to sue Sanusi and other Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders who continue to repeat the allegations on the river development project.
Amirudin emphasised that the issue has been thoroughly explained, while accusing PN leaders of presenting false information to the public.
In a related development, the master developer for SMG, Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), has also begun legal action against those issuing slanderous remarks concerning the implementation of the project.
In a statement to the Selangor Journal on July 31, LLSB announced it would be serving a writ of summons to the relevant parties within a week.
The decision was reportedly made in response to the slanders, deemed malicious and designed to tarnish the company’s reputation.
Yesterday, LLSB said it has served a letter of demand to an individual linked to PN over defamatory remarks made against the firm and the SMG project.
