SHAH ALAM, July 28 — The state government is on the right track to building 30,000 affordable housing units by 2025, via the Rumah Idaman initiative.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said 2,509 units have since been completed and handed over to buyers, while the remainder is still under construction and expected to be completed within the specified timeframe.

"Overall, under the Rumah Idaman initiative, 6,000 units have been built or are still being constructed. Tens of thousands of units are in the planning and approval process.

"In this manner, we are confident at being able to meet the target of building between 20,000 to 30,000 affordable homes," he said at a press conference following the Rumah Idaman Cahaya ground-breaking ceremony in Cahaya Alam, earlier today.

Amirudin also welcomed the Federal government's move to provide up to 120 per cent in financing under the Housing Credit Guarantee Corporation's (HCGS) scheme to help people own their first homes.

"The state is happy with the announcement made by the Prime Minister yesterday, that the loan limit for houses in the Klang Valley will be increased to 120 per cent.

"Rumah Idaman falls under this category, and it will help Selangor address the issue of people who want to own a house but face financial constraints," he said.

The Menteri Besar added that nearly 60 per cent of loan recipients reject offers due to loan problems, based on data from the Selangor Housing and Property Board.

Yesterday, in announcing the increased financing guarantee, the Federal government said this applies to houses valued up to RM300,000.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative will allow all homeownership costs to be covered through the relevant loans.
