HULU LANGAT, July 17 – A total of RM1.3 million in small grants has been allocated by the state government for the promotion of green technology and environmental conservation in Selangor.

State executive councillor for environment and green technology Hee Loy Sian said specifically, RM800,000 will be designated for the Green Technology Small Grant (GKTH), while RM500,000 is for the Environmental Small Grant (GKAS).

The grants will be awarded to various groups, including non-governmental organisations, residents’ associations, joint management bodies, surau, mosques and schools.

The maximum grant amount has been fixed for RM20,000 and RM10,000 respectively for GKTH and GKAS.

"The grants will be disbursed this Friday and are aimed at encouraging community involvement in green technology activities and environmental conservation.

“This includes tree planting, river and beach cleaning, the development of rainwater harvesting system, recycling, and solar lighting installation," he said after officiating a solar-powered light installation programme at SJKC Sungai Chua, here, today.

As part of the initiative, the school will receive RM20,000 to install eight solar-powered lamp posts, benefiting approximately 1,400 students and teachers.

Application for the small grants is open from April 20, with priority given to projects that have potential to make positive impacts on the state, reduce environmental pollution risks, and contribute to long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits.
