AMPANG JAYA, July 17 — The state government aims to upgrade the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to city status within three years.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that to become a city, the local authority has to fulfil several criteria, including formulating sustainable living policies that meet the needs of the residents in its administrative area.
“Based on records, MPAJ already has the necessary facilities, but it is important to ensure that the local council has sufficient resources to manage the status of a city. We do not want the quality in Ampang Jaya to be far behind compared to Kuala Lumpur, which is already a city.
“Therefore, the state government has formulated a special plan through the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) to upgrade the facilities, including bringing high-quality industries to all areas,” he said at the Ampang Jaya Night Run (AJNR) programme organised by MPAJ in Jalan Pandan Utama, Pandan Indah, on Saturday.
Also present were Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail and MPAJ President Dr Ani Ahmad.
On January 11, Amirudin said that RS-1 is the pinnacle of the state’s development agenda planned over the past few years.
He said that through the Selangor Budget 2019, an economic clustering policy was formulated to accelerate progress in all areas without focusing only on developed areas such as Petaling and Klang.
