No decision yet to raise water tariffs statewide — MB

SHAH ALAM, July 4 — The state government has not made any decisions thus far to increase the water tariffs for Selangor, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

Referring to several recent news reports which stated the water tariffs in the Klang Valley will be raised this year, he said anything concerning water tariffs is a policy matter which requires the decision and approval of the state administration.

"The main focus of this administration is to support the survival of the people's economy, rather than burden them.

"The state government is committed to ensuring the water services system which channels water to over 8.4 million residents in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya, will continue to be augmented," he said in a statement today.

Earlier today, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd's acting chief executive officer Abas Abdullah was reported to have said he hopes the state government will review the water tariffs this year.

Although Air Selangor recorded an estimated RM2.45 billion in revenue for 2022, Abas said it is still not enough to cover operational costs and capital expenditure.
