SHAH ALAM, June 28 — The state government has spent over RM7.6 million in the past 10 years to assist underprivileged students further their studies in higher education institutions.

Executive councillor for socioeconomic development and caring government V. Ganabatirau said since 2013, 1,817 students from low income families have benefited from the aid.

"We don't want them to miss out on the opportunity to further their education at a higher level due to financial issues.

"This is why we try to help as many people as possible so that no one will be left behind," he told Selangorkini.

According to Ganabatirau, students who are undertaking diploma and degree studies can apply for the state government's education financial aid for B40 Indian community scheme.

"This year, close to RM2 million has been allocated to 502 students. Aid was distributed in phases, with the first group receiving the assistance last week, followed by July and August.

"For diploma students, they will receive up to RM3,000, while degree students can get up to RM5,000. These aid will be credited straight to the respective higher education institution."
