KLANG, June 19 — The Selangor Ruler has reminded candidates contesting during the upcoming Selangor state poll, including their supporters, not to use religious and racial issues during their election campaign.
Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj further advised the involved parties not to play up sensitive issues that would threaten the peace and unity of the people of the state.
“I would like to advise the candidates and their supporters to conduct the state election campaign in a responsible and humble manner, and to abide by the law.
“They are also reminded not to insult, slander, or sow discord among the opposing parties throughout the campaign, in order to prevent dissent among the people of this multiracial state,” said His Royal Highness at the dissolution declaration ceremony of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly at Balai Dewan Diraja, Istana Alam Shah, here today.
Earlier this morning, the Selangor Sultan consented to the dissolution of the state assembly this Friday (June 23) to pave the way for the upcoming state election, following an audience with Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
His Royal Highness said the ceremony was held today, considering that he and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin will leave the country tomorrow to perform their haj.
Also present during the ceremony were the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, state Speaker Ng Suee Lim, secretary of the state Dato' Haris Kasim and state government leadership.
