SHAH ALAM, June 15 — The Selangor state government has spent between RM25 million to RM30 million annually since 2016 for the Smart Selangor bus service, according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin said the service, offered free of charge to local residents, has benefitted over 61 million users since its launch.
"This service helps to complete the first and last mile segments of public transportation," he said at the launch of the Selangor Mobility Forum organised by the state government, in collaboration with the Shah Alam City Council and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), here, today.
"Several local authorities have also collaborated with private entities to provide micro-mobility transportations such as e-scooters and beams to enhance the state's public transportation system," he added.
In addition to local residents, Smart Selangor buses are also available to foreign residents beginning March 15, through the Citizen E-Payment application, although they are required to pay a 90 sen fee.
Meanwhile, Amirudin stated that various initiatives have been introduced to ensure transformative changes to the state's public transportation, aiming to make it the primary choice for the people in the future.
He disclosed that these initiatives include the development of the Light Rail Transit, Mass Rapid Transit 3, and East Coast Rail Link projects.
