Selangor Mobility expanding to eight zones, focusing densely populated areas — MB

SHAH ALAM, June 15 – The Selangor Mobility initiative, introduced by the state government to improve public transportation accessibility, will be expanded to eight zones by September, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Currently implemented in Gombak, Selayang, and Puchong, the Menteri Besar said that other zones are being identified, focusing on regions with high demand for routes with narrower roads and densely populated areas.

Amirudin said that the initiative includes other infrastructure in addition to transportation modes, such as bus stops, micro-mobility and e-scooters.

“We will identify the relevant zones, but we must wait for the right time. It would take about two to three months as it also involves using an application that requires time for compatibility.

“If there is positive feedback and demand, I think it can be extended to other zones. This could then reduce the need for buses and allow us to focus on other areas,” he said when met after the launch of the Selangor Mobility Forum, organised by the state government in collaboration with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, here today.

Amirudin said the initiative reflects the state government’s efforts to improve the public transport system and increase accessibility.

“This initiative is in line with (one of the four pillars) of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) on sustainability development, which emphasises shifting from using private transport to making the best use of public transport to achieve low-carbon cities,” he added.

During the tabling of the Selangor Budget 2023 in November last year, Amirudin unveiled that a total of RM25 million is allocated to strengthen the state's public transportation and its efforts, supported by data analytics systems, are rebranded under Selangor Mobility.

This initiative covers all forms of public transport and supporting infrastructure, such as buses, railways, taxis, e-hailing services, and public transportation hubs.
