SUBANG JAYA, June 13 — The redevelopment of Shah Alam Sports Complex will be done in accordance with its original plan that was formulated in 2008, for the benefit of residents in the state, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the project, which would be developed based on best practices, will also integrate a flood mitigation and traffic dispersal plan.
"This project, in the end, will benefit everyone. It involves flood mitigation and traffic dispersal, as the location in question is congested, particularly during the late evening," he said in a press conference after officiating the state Education Strategic Action Plan, here, today.
Amirudin also reminded all quarters not to issue any confusing statement or politicise the matter ahead of the coming state election.
"If I am doing this (KSSA redevelopment) because of the state election, I would have made the announcement this month. The reason I went ahead with this delayed plan is to ensure the price doesn't balloon and remains balanced."
Last week, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, announced that the KSSA project is now at the design review and component development phase, before it is finalised next month.
The project is expected to be completed in 2026, in parallel with the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3, through a public-private partnership with Malaysia Resourced Corporation Bhd, without the use of public funds.
The redevelopment of the sports complex was decided after it was estimated that repair works would cost RM787 million.
Between 2013 and 2022, a total of RM56 million have been spent for maintenance and repair.
