SHAH ALAM, June 11 — More than 2,000 visitors took part in the Shah Alam Car-Free Day programme today, the second session for this month, which commenced with a five-kilometre run at 7am.

Held at Dataran Kemerdeaan, Shah Alam Deputy Mayor Cheremi Tarman said the programme provides the public with the opportunity to carry out leisure activities with their families during the weekend, as well as a sign of concern for the environment.

"We closed the car routes within a five-kilometre radius of the area for four hours, and held various events for people to have fun and relax with their families on the weekend," he said.

Earlier, Cheremi inaugurated Shah Alam Car-Free Day, organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), by kicking off some 500 participants of the Fun Ride, Fun Run, and Fun Walk events.

Other events include leisurely cycling, aerobics, street musician performances, the MBSA combo, colouring for children, a petting zoo, and a folk sports carnival by Majlis Perwakilan Penduduk (MPP) Shah Alam.

MBSA also provided various service counters including its mobile library and a SEDA-10 exhibition.
