Five states to receive new Fire Dept directors

IPOH, June 1 — The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has announced the reshuffling of five state directors, including Selangor, effective tomorrow.

JBPM deputy director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohamad the other states include Perak, Kedah, Johor, and Putrajaya.

He said the reshuffle is due to the retirement and promotion of its senior officers, of which Kedah will get a new director when its former director is transferred to Perak following the compulsory retirement of the state JBPM director.

"Selangor, Johor and Putrajaya will receive a new director and these are the five main changes we will make starting tomorrow," he said at a press conference after the appreciation and handing over of duties ceremony of Perak JBPM director Azmi Osman at Perak JBPM Headquarters, earlier today.

Azmi, who will retire from his 26 years in the service handed over the duties to Sayani Saidon who was previously the director of Kedah JBPM.

The other newly appointed state JBPM directors include Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail (Selangor), Awang Hidzel Awang Bujang (Kedah), Siti Rohani Nadir (Johor), and Ashari Johari (Putrajaya).

In another development, Nor Hisham said JBPM is always prepared in every aspect, including logistics to face the hot weather to minimise its impacts.

"We are quite worried this year over the hot weather that hit the country in March and the same situation is predicted next year,” he said adding the department is working closely with other government agencies including the police, the Forestry Department, as well as the local authorities to ensure members of the public do not carry out open burning.
