SHAH ALAM, May 27 — The stage theatre play Dari Cherok Tok Kun Ke Putrajaya at Auditorium Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Abdul Aziz yesterday has been met with a warm reception by its audience.

Its director Hasrol Hisham Mohd Hassan said 1,200 tickets were sold out a week before it took place. The play blends horror and comedy with the theme of drug abuse.

"The reception has been encouraging so far, as 1,200 tickets were sold out a week before the show, I hope Pemadam (Malaysian Drug Prevention Association) will continue with this kind of programme.

"This is a different approach to the anti-drug campaign, in the form of horror comedy theatre for us to educate the public, compared to the usual seminars and lectures," he told SelangorKini during the production yesterday.

Hasrol Hisham, better known as Lanun, said the theatre could join hands with other quarters in the struggle against drug abuse.

He also hopes it will be continued by Pemadam, and said he is prepared to do so in the future as well.

Meanwhile, Selangor Pemadam honourary secretary Farhan Ahmad Kamal said the organisation decided to present a different side to things via performance art in the fight against drug abuse, especially among youths.

"We decided to use the theatre concept in this campaign, as actors like Ella and Joe Wings have their respective fan bases and can attract others to watch this performance.

"We also want to expand the campaign by using university students as the agents of the anti-drug campaign. Tonight's performance was also attended by Politeknik Shah Alam students, and I hope the university also supports this campaign," he said.

Asides from Ella and Joe Wings, the theatre also featured a line-up of comedians including Imuda, Abu Mamu, Caca Raja Lawak, and Kumpulan Kiut.

Other participants include former Wings guitarist Jo Branko, Ella's sister Jojie, her husband Captain Azhar, and Chef Yang Jamil.
