SHAH ALAM, May 26 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) carried out demolition works on additional structures that were constructed without authorisation, during a joint operation at 13 premises in the Bandar Puteri 2/3 commercial centre, Puchong yesterday.

Its corporate communications department said all the premises were discovered to have covered the entire surface of the back alley's drain without permission.

"MBSJ has taken stern action by demolishing stores and other connections constructed above the drain.

"Enforcement was carried out per Section 46 and Section 70 of the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974, which covers the offence of erecting structures or obstacles in public places without permission.

"We have also demolished the illegal structures and constructions, after which KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) conducted drain cleaning work," MBSJ said in a statement.

The joint operation to dismantle the structures and unauthorised construction involved six council departments, including the Building Department, the Enforcement Department, the Licensing Department, the Engineering Department, the Environmental Management Department, as well as the Corporate and Strategic Management Department.

External parties participating in the operation included the Serdang district police headquarters, KDEBWM, and MBSJ councillor Zone 16 Yap Kok Weng.

"MBSJ will continue to carry out periodic monitoring in all commercial areas. Premise owners are requested to not dispose of cooking waste into drains, as well as a reminder to not build any structures on top of the drains," it said.
