PUTRAJAYA, May 10 — A former crane operator was sentenced to 36 years in jail and 20 strokes of the cane by the Court of Appeal today for raping two of his underaged daughters.
This followed the decision of the three-member panel comprising Justices Datuk Seri Kamaludin Md Said, Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Lim Chong Fong in allowing the man’s appeal to reduce his jail sentence and whipping to 18 years and 10 strokes of the cane for each charge.
The 42-year-old man was initially sentenced to a total of 40 years imprisonment and 24 strokes of the cane by the Segamat Sessions Court in Johor on May 20, 2020, after he pleaded guilty to the two rape charges.
He then appealed to the Court of Appeal for a reduction of the sentence after he lost his appeal at the Muar High Court on December 24, the same year.
The father of five pleaded guilty to raping his 15-year-old daughter in 2017 and his 13-year-old daughter in January 2020.
The Segamat Sessions Court sentenced him to 20 years in jail and 12 whipping for each charge and ordered the sentences to run consecutively from the date of his arrest on May 19, 2020.
