SHAH ALAM, May 3 — The state government will continue assisting first-time home buyers via the Rumah SelangorKu scheme, said state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail.

She said the scheme has been met with very encouraging responses, with 150,000 new applications thus far.

"Selangor will not discontinue Rumah SelangorKu and its applications, as we want to maintain accommodating the people in obtaining their own homes.

"Our objective is one family, one home. We want to assist them, especially those buying homes for the first time," Rodziah said.

She was commenting on the news reports concerning the Federal government's decision to abolish the Skim Rumah Pertamaku (SRP) scheme, which ran from 2011 to April 1 this year.

Managed by Cagamas Bhd, SRP is aimed at helping households with a monthly gross income of RM10,000 and below in owning their first home.

On March 11, Rodziah said the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) recorded close to 120,000 applicants waiting to own Rumah SelangorKu units.

This is double the state government's target, as it plans to build 60,000 affordable housing units by 2025.
