SHAH ALAM, May 3 — A total of 2,800 children from low-income families have received nutritious food assistance at a RM500,000 allocation throughout this year, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the initiative, via Anak Selangor Anak Sihat (ASAS), includes the provision of powdered milk full of cream, biscuits, cereals, and multivitamins.
"Last year, we began to include full cream milk powder biscuits, cereals and multivitamins for calcium absorption and strengthening bones, in the assistance packs. This is crucial, as it can help overcome the problem of stunted growth and lack of weight among the targeted children.
"This year, the aid beneficiaries, including parents and guardians, will be educated on how to prepare nutritious food by nutritionists," Amirudin said in a Facebook post.
In order to improve the programme, a total of 56 ASAS centres will be established in each state constituency, so as to guarantee long-term success.
In July last year, the Menteri Besar announced a 10-month food nutrition assistance initiative via ASAS, in order to prevent stunted growth and malnutrition among low-income families and their children.
Nutritional assistance for children is one of the various programmes under the aegis of Iltizam Selangor Penyayang's (ISP) health cluster, for Selangor residents.
