SHAH ALAM, May 1 — The tireless determination and willpower of the state's nearly 3.6 million workers can serve as the catalyst of Selangor realising its aim of contributing 30 per cent to the nation's gross domestic product (GDP), said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

In his special address for Labour Day today, he said the efforts of Selangor's workers will also ensure Malaysia continues to develop, in line with this year's theme of Pekerja Pemangkin Wadah Malaysia MADANI (Workers - Platform of Catalyst for Malaysia MADANI).

"The endeavour of our workers has played a vital role in positioning Selangor as the nation's biggest GDP contributor in 2021, at 24.8 per cent.

"I deeply appreciate the workers' continuous commitment across the various sectors, be it state civil servants, Federal civil servants residing in Selangor, or the private sector workers," Amirudin said.

He added the role of parents should also not be forgotten, for although they may not be defined as workers in that sense, their responsibility of educating and raising their offspring is crucial in producing a young generation of visionaries.

"I would also like to congratulate the employers who have continued to provide opportunities to Selangor's workers in delving into various fields and sectors, as well as maintaining sustainability, particularly in terms of finance.

"May these joint efforts continue onwards, and contribute to the increase in life quality for the state's workers, with commensurate and constantly developing wages, in line with Malaysia's economic development.

"Once again, on behalf of the Selangor state government, I wish everybody a Happy Labour Day to all workers in Selangor. Celebrate it with your friends and loved ones," Amirudin said.

The state remains at the forefront of economic development nationwide, with a RM343.5 billion GDP value last year, compared to RM327.1 billion in 2020.

Prior to this, the Menteri Besar expressed his confidence in Selangor increasing its contribution to the national GDP between 2025 to 2026, driven by projects like the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss) and the NCT Smart Industrial Park.
