PETALING JAYA, April 15 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), through its Jalinan Kasih 3R PJKita programme, has donated used items in good condition to 11 families for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Its Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department director Zain Azly Abdul Rahman said the items include clothing and furniture.

"Since 2019, MBPJ has ensured 20 poor and B40 families receive these donated used goods, which were sourced from our Spring Cleaning programme carried out during every major festival in the country.

"The items, generally large ones like furniture, remain in fine and usable condition, hence its suitability for the programme," he said after the Jalinan Kasih 3R PJKita ceremony at the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza in Sungai Way yesterday afternoon.

The event was officiated by Petaling Jaya Deputy Mayor Sharipah Marhaini Syed Ali.

Zain Azly added that MBPJ will carry out the programme for other festivals like Deepavali, as well as for the council's anniversary celebrations.

"Similarly, we are considering expanding Jalinan Kasih 3R PJKita to the needy, outside the scope of festive periods or special occasions," he said.

One of the programme's recipient, Halimah Abdullah, 38, said the donation has brought Aidilfitri cheer to her family, as they are unable to afford a sofa for their home.

"I am a breadwinnder for three disabled family members. Earning less than RM1,000 a month, I cannot even contemplate purchasing a sofa.

"So with such an opportunity, it brings me joy for at least there is a ray of sunshine for this Aidilfitri," she said.
