ISTANBUL, April 11 — Global personal computer shipments annually declined 29 per cent in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period of last year, according to a report released Monday.
The worldwide shipments of PCs totalled 56.9 million in the January - March period of this year, according to preliminary results from the International Data Corporation's (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.
The figure, in addition, was also much lower than the 59.2 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2019 and 60.6 million during the same period of 2018, reported Anadolu.
It said weak demand, excess inventory, and a worsening macroeconomic climate were all factors that contributed to the decline in PC shipments in the first quarter of this year.
"The pause in growth and demand is also giving the supply chain some room to make changes as many factories begin to explore production options outside China," the report said.
US tech giant Apple saw the largest annual decline with 40.5 per cent as its shipments fell to 4.1 million in the first quarter of 2023, from 6.9 million in the first quarter of 2022.
Chinese tech firm Lenovo saw an annual decline of 30 per cent in PC shipments, while ASUS and Dell Technologies also saw a year-on-year drop of 30 per cent each.
