SHAH ALAM, April 6 — Efforts to protect the environment by collecting the leftovers from the Ramadan bazaar in USJ4, Subang Jaya, resulted in the collection of 426.12 kilogrammes of unsold food to date.

Subang Jaya state representative Michelle Ng Mei Sze said the environmental initiative in collaboration with the private company What A Waste was initiated on March 29 to curb the wastage of food by distributing it to those in need.

“To date, 426.12 kilogrammes of food were collected, which could prevent 1,065.30 kilogrammes of greenhouse gas emission.

“It's a good sign that food waste is declining daily. This campaign serves as a reminder for us to play a role in protecting the environment,” she said on Facebook.

On March 29, the initiative collected 300 kilogrammes of food, which would generate 702 kilogrammes of carbon.

In collaboration with the same company, Ng also had on March 17 collected 177 kilogrammes of leftovers over the course of three days during the state legislative assembly.
