AMPANG JAYA, March 25 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) carried out a commercial area operation yesterday against a workshop for failing to pay RM50,522.28 in assessment tax arrears.
Council President Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the operation along Jalan AWF 3 at Ampang Waterfront, raided eight premises overall, with RM55,211.79 in total assessed tax arrears.
"During the operation, MPAJ collected assessment tax arrears from seven premises, while a workshop saw 30 units of motorcycle tyres and motorcycle repair equipment worth RM10,096.08 seized," he said in a statement.
Prior to this, 14 E Notices were pasted at 14 premises, instructing their respective owners to clear the arrears within 15 days in order to avoid repossession.
Of the 14 premises, six complied with the order and paid a total of RM18,432.20 in assessment tax arrears.
Yesterday, an operation by the MPAJ Revenue Department with 30 staff members was carried out for tax seizures and assessment tax arrears collection purposes, at the eight premises.
Based on MPAJ's latest information as of February 2023, residential assessment tax arrears stand at RM66 million while commercial assessment tax arrears is RM23 million.
The council is aiming to collect RM17 million in arrears for commercial areas and RM87.5 million for the collection of residential and commercial taxes.
