Civil servants involved in post-flood missions entitled to allowance

PUTRAJAYA, March 21 — Civil servants involved in post-flood operations are considered to be carrying out official duties and are entitled to receive eligible allowances and facilities.

The matter is stated in the 'Implementation of Civil Servant Volunteer Teams for Post-Flood Management' letter dated March 17 this year, signed by Public Service Department director-general Datuk Dr Zulkapli Mohamed following the Prime Minister’s Department post-Cabinet meeting.

The meeting has agreed to remobilise civil servant volunteer teams (PSPA) from all ministries, departments, and agencies to conduct post-flood missions in affected areas.

The letter states that the Public Service Ex-Gratia Work Disaster scheme will cover those who volunteer subject to the conditions under Treasury Circular W.P 6.3.

"The ministries, departments and agencies are responsible for managing the claims of the officers involved subject to the regulations in force," according to the letter distributed to all the ministry's chief secretaries.

The directive is effective from the date the letter was issued.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today launched the post-flood PSPA to Johor with the participation of a total of 1,520 civil servants representing various ministries, departments and government agencies.

The two-day post-flood mission will be focused on areas in the Batu Pahat district.

On March 17, Anwar instructed all ministry machinery to help in post-flood operations in Johor and that the Finance Ministry had approved an additional allocation of RM150 million for the purpose.
