JOHOR BAHRU, March 18 — The flood situation in Johor, especially in Batu Pahat district, is seen to be improving, after the floodwaters in the severely affected areas, such as Parit Sulong, Yong Peng, Sri Gading and Parit Raja, are seen to have started to recede.
According to the state Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in Batu Pahat and Segamat, a total of 20,107 victims are currently housed in 77 temporary relief centres as of 4 this afternoon, compared with 21,127 people recorded as of 8 this morning.
"Batu Pahat still records the most number of evacuees, at 20,083 people from 5,743 families, in 75 relief centres, followed by Segamat, with 24 people, from eight families," it said in a statement today.
The weather in all 10 districts until this evening is reported to be clear, and no rivers record dangerous water levels.
Earlier, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, in a Facebook post, said that efforts to pump water are being actively carried out to deal with the stagnant floodwaters in the Batu Pahat district.
He also expressed hope that it can be resolved before the arrival of Ramadan next week.
