PUTRAJAYA, March 16 — The marketability rate of graduates from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) agriculture institute has reached 69.5 per cent, said its Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

Many of the graduates are now involved in the agriculture industry and become agro-food entrepreneurs.

“The field of agriculture and agro-food is wide, so they (graduates) can choose whether to work in companies or manage their own businesses,” he said after attending the 11th Agriculture Convention here today.

Mohamad said that since its formation in 1969, the agriculture institute under the management of the KPKM has produced 22,667 trained graduates to meet the industry’s needs.

The institute’s graduates also followed the technical and vocational education (TVET) programme so that they would not be left behind in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) wave, he said.

“I believe all the skills and knowledge gained will enable them to venture further into the agriculture industry through the latest technological applications and contribute towards food security and sustainability of the environment,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rohaini Mohd Salman Murugasoo, who is a graduate of the Titi Gantong Agriculture Institute in Perak and who currently works as a manager at ornamental plants and agricultural tools supplying company, described her career as meeting her interest in the agricultural field.

“I see a future in this field. In fact, it is also my ambition to start my own farm using the IoT (Internet of Things),” said the 25-year-old from Selangor, who is a recipient of the Special Award from the director-general of Agriculture 2022.
