SHAH ALAM, March 14 — A state assemblyman has asked the state government to hasten the approval of applications for Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) and Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa Selangor (SMIS).
Kota Damansara's Shatiri Mansor said he has learned the approval process for the RM150 vouchers and the RM500 death benefits can take up to two to three months.
"With the current situation in which the people require help as soon as possible, I hope the relevant state executive councillors can speed up the process for these two programmes.
"Recently, we submitted 550 applications from Kota Damansara, but they have yet to be approved," he said during the debate on the royal speech by the Sultan of Selangor, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting earlier today.
Meanwhile, Shatiri also thanked the state government for providing SMUE and SMIS to the elderly and to disabled persons.
"I hope the programmes will be retained, so as to ensure the people of Selangor can continue to receive these existing benefits," he said.
Yesterday, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj voiced appreciation over the state government's efforts to introduce various welfare programmes for the benefit of the people, under Iltizam Selangor Penyayang's (ISP) framework.
His Royal Highness also called Selangor residents to participate in ISP's 46 programmes, which encompass the aspects of education, welfare, housing, human capital development, and public health.
