State govt lauds MBPJ, Selangor local authorities for high ratings

SHAH ALAM, March 14 — The state government has congratulated the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) for retaining its five-star rating as the best local authority in the country, during the Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan 2023 Convention.

State executive councillor for local government and public transportation Ng Sze Han said MBPJ was one of the 155 local authorities evaluated under the Local Authority Star Rating System (SPB-PBT), and which managed to achieve a 98.32 per cent score, making it the highest-rated local authority.

The score is based on three criteria, including core services, customer management, and resident participation/population view.

"Alongside MBPJ, all local authorities in Selangor were also rated with five stars, with the Sabak Bernam District Council achieving a minimum score of 93.23 per cent, in 57th place," he said in a statement.

Similarly, Ng congratulated the Klang Municipal Council for its victory as the champion of the Inovasi MALA 2.0 competition under Piala YB Menteri KPKT.

"The overall ratings are in line with Selangor's vision to become a smart, inclusive and caring state.

"As a developed state with a GDP contribution of 24.8 to the nation, the local governments in Selangor will continue to practice good and sustainable governance, in order to create a balanced society in line with the state's development," he said.

During the convention, which ran from March 11 to March 12 at the Ipoh Convention Center in Perak, MBPJ was represented by Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md. Amir during the award ceremony, which was officiated by Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Asides from MPBJ and the Sabak Bernam District Council, Selangor's other local authorities include the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council in ninth place with 97.16 per cent, the Subang Jaya City Council in 11th place with 97.09 per cent, and the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council in 15th place with 96.77 per cent.

Others are the Kajang Municipal Council in 19th place with 96.44 per cent, the Klang Municipal Council in 20th place with 96.39 per cent, the Selayang Municipal Council in 28th place with 96.06 per cent, the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council in 29th place with 95.71 per cent, the Kuala Langat Municipal Council in 35th place with 95.50 per cent, the Shah Alam City Council in 37th place with 95.30 per cent, and the Sepang Municipal Council in 45th place with 94.41 per cent.
